Section 4: First-Aid Measures
Section 5: Fire-Fighting Measures
Water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or foam as appropriate for surrounding fire and materials.[United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc (USP); MSDS Database Online; Material Safety Data Sheet: Oxytocin; Catalog Number: 1491300; (Revision Date: December 4, 2006)]
As with all fires, evacuate personnel to a safe area. Firefighters should use self-contained breathing equipment and protective clothing.[United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc (USP); MSDS Database Online; Material Safety Data Sheet: Oxytocin; Catalog Number: 1491300; (Revision Date: December 4, 2006)]
Section 6: Accidental Release Measures
Wipe up spillage or collect spillage using a high- efficiency vacuum cleaner. Avoid breathing dust. Place spillage in appropriately labeled container for disposal. Wash spill site.[United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc (USP); MSDS Database Online; Material Safety Data Sheet: Oxytocin; Catalog Number: 1491300; (Revision Date: December 4, 2006)]
Section 7: Handling and Storage
- Engineering controls such as exhaust ventilation are recommended.[United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc (USP); MSDS Database Online; Material Safety Data Sheet: Oxytocin; Catalog Number: 1491300; (Revision Date: December 4, 2006)]
- Use a NIOSH-approved respirator, if it is determined to be necessary by an industrial hygiene survey involving air monitoring. In the event that a respirator is not required, an approved dust mask should be used.[United States Pharmacopeial Convention, Inc (USP); MSDS Database Online; Material Safety Data Sheet: Oxytocin; Catalog Number: 1491300; (Revision Date: December 4, 2006)]

Section 10: Stability and Reactivity
Reactivity
- Oxytocin injection appears to be compatible with most iv infusion fluids but is reported to be physically incompatible with fibrinolysin, norepinephrine bitartrate, prochlorperazine edisylate, and warfarin sodium. Oxytocin injection has also been reported to be incompatible with various other drugs, but the compatibility depends on several factors (eg, the concentration of the drugs, resulting pH, temperature). Specialized references should be consulted for more specific compatibility information.[American Society of Health System Pharmacists; AHFS Drug Information 2009. Bethesda, MD. (2009), p. 3349]
Other
- When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of /sulfur oxide/ and /nitric oxide/.[Lewis, R.J. Sr. (ed) Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials. 11th Edition. Wiley-Interscience, Wiley & Sons, Inc. Hoboken, NJ. 2004., p. 2809]
